About Kimberley...

The idea of Hey Mama Naturopathy was born after my first baby came along. About 10 months postpartum I was a mess. Mentally, emotionally and physically. Motherhood hit me like a tonne of matchbox cars, I was under prepared and over confident. I thought, ‘I know how to nourish myself, I was a naturopath and my partner a chef, we will be fine, nourished and happy’.… Oh boy, was I wrong!

My mental and physical health was in a ditch and it took me a long time and a lot of effort to get myself out. I was still battered and bruised but I was on the mend.

When I was able to think again, I wondered why we put so much emphasis on preparing the nursery, for the birth and baby? No one tells you how to help your body recover from birth! I had nutrition and health knowledge and I STILL managed to get myself in quite the state. It was then I decided I wanted to dedicate myself to helping mothers through preconception, pregnancy and the postnatal period, to avoid or at least lessen the common depletion motherhood can cause on the body.

Hey mama… I’ve got you.

***

Health has always been an interest of mine. Starting with movement as medicine, then food as medicine, then falling head over heels for herbal medicine and the naturopathic concept that the body has an innate ability to heal itself.

I was born in Adelaide, which is where I currently reside. I did a short stint working on the islands of North Queensland in my early 20’s then ‘stopped in’ at the Gold Coast on the way home. 7 years later I finally made it back to Adelaide, with a man by my side.

I studied a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) at Endeavour College of Natural Health, starting my degree on the Gold Coast, finishing it in Adelaide. It wasn’t long after I graduated that we were expecting our first baby.

I registered with the Australian Traditional Medicine Society as soon as I could and started my new career.. pregnant! I worked within supplement distribution, had a baby, then general private practice and more recently a thyroid and hormone specific clinic. I learnt so much from these positions and will always be grateful that I started my career this way.

I just couldn’t shake the idea of Hey Mama Naturopathy after my rough start into motherhood. I kept the name in my mind… only for a year! I don’t want other mamas to go through what I went through. I had realised my calling, put the name to paper and started Hey Mama.

I understand whole heartedly just how hard the struggle into motherhood can be. I wish to make the transition as easy as possible, for as many mamas as I can.

What I love;

  • Preconception care
